About
My name is J. Ryan. I’m a tarot reader with over 20 years of experience, a former publishing publicist at Llewellyn Worldwide, and a practitioner of symbolic and narrative-based insight.
My work sits at the intersection of tarot, storytelling, and personal reflection. Whether through divination, coaching, or conversation, I help people understand the patterns unfolding in their lives—and what those patterns might be asking of them.
I offer three primary types of work:
• Divination Readings — sessions drawing from tarot, palmistry, Lenormand, and other symbolic systems
• Storycraft Coaching — guidance for writers developing plot, character, and narrative structure
• Insight Sessions — tarot-informed conversations for navigating decisions, transitions, and personal patterns
Before focusing fully on this work, (and returning to graduate school) I spent six and a half years as a publicist at Llewellyn Worldwide, working with authors and deck creators alike. That experience continues to inform how I approach story, audience, and meaning—both on the page and in everyday life.
You can find me reading in person at Midwest Witchery & Healing in Stillwater on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 12–6pm.

The top of the image has the website text "TAROTDIVERGENT.COM" and the bottom text reads "NEW BLOG POST: Don't Call Me That! A Journey of Evolution and the Term Psychic."
why tarotdivergent?
tarotdivergent is built around one idea: that the same patterns show up everywhere—on the page, in the cards, and in the lives we’re trying to make sense of.
This space brings those patterns into focus.
Some people come here for a reading. Others for help shaping a story. Others because something in their life feels unclear or in transition. The tools may change, but the work is the same: looking closely, asking better questions, and finding meaning in what’s already unfolding.
The blog expands on that—exploring writing, symbolism, and the strange overlap between fiction and real life—along with perspectives from others working in similar spaces.
